Using a Urine Bag
A urine bag is a device for the collection of urine from an automatic device that empties the urine from the bladder. This device is often necessary in individuals who suffer from incontinence, but may also be necessary for those who have other conditions. It may also be for when it is necessary to collect urine for diagnostic testing. Individuals may need to use these products long term, such as for the rest of your life, or during a short period until the condition can improve otherwise. In all situations, it is a good idea to discuss the condition with your doctor fully to understand what is going on.
Why You Need It
In many situations, urinary catheterization is necessary. This is the process in which a very thin, latex or silicone tube is placed into the patient’s bladder through the urethra. This tube is called a urinary catheter. It does not hurt for this to occur, though it can feel uncomfortable, or cause pressure when it is being inserted. When the device is in place, it will allow the urine from the person’s bladder to drain freely into a collection device. You will need to use this urine bag. When it is in place, you will need to ensure the bag remains emptied as often as possible. (more…)
